Don't Settle For Mediocrity / by Rory Santos

As a fitness professional with over 25 years in the business I'm always thinking how best to describe the commitment, discipline, & drive it takes to consistently live & share this fit life every SINGLE day and what it means - what it really means - in other words, my professional fitness philosophy...

I had a vision one night right after a banging shoulder workout as I walked out of the gym into the parking lot and saw this $120,000 V8 430 horse power Audi R8 and thought about what a serious machine it is. Not only does it look like a winner, but it has those 430 horses under the hood, super high quality interior & ultra performance output to back up all its sexy good looks on the outside. It's the real thing! Someone made a serious commitment (a decision to pay a price) to plunk down $120K to own this car.

I got to thinking of the comparisons of an exotic beast of a sports car and a very well taken care of body: They're both very desirable by many, and yet many don't have the willingness to seriously commit to the costs, maintenance and up keep of either of them. They both can bring adrenaline rushes of joy when one experiences their aesthetic beauty mixed with their powerful performance.

For me & my goals, it's similar to the Audi R8's marketing tagline: "Performance Art - blurring the lines between art and performance!" We should all take care of our bodies at least as well, and with the same urgency, as we would take care of an $120K sports car!

And that's where the similarities also start highlighting the differences.

You are worth FAR more - your body, your mind, your soul - far more wonderfully made, far more intricately designed, far more powerfully equipped and far more capable of extraordinary achievement than any machine ever created!

Income, material possessions & beautiful healthy physiques can all be outcomes or general indicators of achievement, but they are not accurate measurements of the true depth or degree of achievement, because they cannot in themselves bring deep lasting joy - only temporary happiness. We all know that's true because we know of too many people who have those indicators in abundance but they still feel unfulfilled inside - sometimes even miserable.

I've learned the TRUE measure of achievement is the amount of fulfillment you are able to bring to others and to yourself ...and the good news is you were definitely not created for mediocrity! God created you for extraordinary awesome achievement! And THAT brings deep lasting joy into your life!

Sharing that news and how it relates to fitness & wellness (living life well) is a big part of my professional mission in life.

...and that's why I do things like post photos of myself making muscle poses next to random cool cars in parking lots. : )
